A’s mash 8 doubles in 7-5 victory over Giants
The Athletics secured another preseason win, defeating the San Francisco Giants 7-5.
On offense, the A’s got big contributions from up and down the lineup, receiving eight doubles from six different players. Shea Langeliers and Gio Urshela, both expected to be starters, each had one in the bottom of the 4th, scoring the A’s first two runs of the day.
Though he wasn’t part of the double-fest, top first base prospect Nick Kurtz also made a difference in the victory, slapping a couple singles, one of which scored a pair of go-ahead runs in the 6th. Logan Davidson, a darkhorse candidate for a major league bench spot, also had a great pinch-hit at-bat, hitting a two-run double in the bottom of the 8th to crystallize the A’s lead.
Pitching-wise, the A’s pitching staff fired 5 shoutout innings to start the game, lead by starter JP Sears, who struck out 3 batter in a pair of perfect innings. Matt Krook, Justin Sterner, and re-rising prospect Ryan Cusick secured the other three. The bullpen faltered after that but none of the pitchers are likely to earn major league playing time this season.
The A’s will be back again tomorrow to face off against the Seattle Mariners.
