About Fred ‘Hammer’ Williamson

Fred Williamson, a former Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs football star, became one of the first Black male action stars of the 1970s, making a name for himself in the blaxploitation film genre. He gained early television recognition in Julia (1968) before transitioning into action-packed roles in films such as That Man Bolt (1973), Black Caesar (1973), and Mean Johnny Barrows (1975).

In 1974, Williamson established Po’ Boy Productions, which has produced over 40 films to date. His career has spanned decades, including work in Hollywood, international cinema, and independent productions.
