Shaq pays surprise visit to varsity baseball teams at Louisiana High School game
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) - Former LSU great and NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal was in Louisiana for the Super Bowl and made a surprise stop in Ascension Parish on Monday, Feb. 10.
According to Dutchtown High School head coach Chris Schexnaydre, O'Neal stopped by the school to visit and surprise their varsity baseball team during the season opener against LSU University Laboratory School - Baton Rouge.
Dutchtown shut out U High 3-0 and are now 5-0 this season.
Todd Black's son Brock reached out to Shaq for a $25 donation to the baseball team. Black said Shaq responded via a Facetime call and that is how the ball got rolling towards the former LSU great stopping by to meet the team.
Black knew Shaq because he roomed with him one summer while he was at LSU. Black's son Brock is on the freshman baseball and football teams at Dutchtown High School.
Schexnaydre said Shaq knew some guys on the U High team and stayed for around an inning and a half. He said the former LSU great briefly spoke with both teams.
"It felt great to see a guy like Shaq take the time to talk to and give our team a little motivation for the game as well as the season," said Schexnaydre.
