0 4

Good morning, Mets fans!

The Mets are hosting Amazin’ Day today, from 9:30 in the morning to 6:30 in the evening. It is expected to be an action-packed day, with several former and current Mets (including Juan Soto) in attendance. The Mets will also be unveiling a new uniform, which was announced earlier this week on the Meet at the Apple podcast.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Mets have asked Brett Baty and Mark Vientos to do first base drills this offseason.

According to On SI’s Pat Ragazzo, the Mets have displayed some interest in a potential reunion with free agent starter and future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer. Scherzer spent a year and a half with the Mets in 2022 and 2023 before being traded to the Rangers. He recorded a 3.95 ERA in nine starts in 2024.

Scherzer reportedly threw for teams earlier in the week, and the Mets were one of the teams in attendance.

The Mets also attended a bullpen session for former Braves reliever Tyler Matzek. The Mets already signed A.J. Minter, another former Braves reliever.

Ragazzo also reported that Pete Alonso met with the Angels on Thursday as he continues to assess his free agent options. While he does that, the Mets, Ragazzo says, have discussed a trade for Detroit’s Spencer Torkelson. The former no. 1 overall pick had a brutal 2024 season but he hit 31 homers in an impressive 2023 campaign.

Per Will Sammon of The Athletic, the Mets agreed to a two-year, minor league deal with former Cubs closer Adbert Alzolay. Alzolay is recovering from Tommy John surgery but has been an effective closer in the past, recording a 2.67 ERA with 22 saves in 2023.

Jesse Winker has several notable bonuses included in his contract, including six-figure bonuses for reaching plate appearance milestones, $50,000 for winning an MVP award, as well as $50,000 for each milestone of making an All-Star team, being named a Silver Slugger, or being named a Gold Glover.

The Mets were reportedly in on outfielder Jurickson Profar before the outfieler signed a three-year deal with the Braves.

The New York Baseball Writers’ Dinner is tonight. One award which will be given out is the Ben Epstein/Dan Castellano “Good Guy” Award, which will be given to Sean Manaea.
