Morning Briefing: Mets Keep Season Alive With Explosive Performance

0 4

Good morning, Mets fans!

A loss away from elimination, the New York Mets took control of Game 5 early and never let up, resulting in a 12-6 win over the Dodgers. The Mets became the 11th team in postseason history to not strike out during the duration of a game, the first since the 2002 Anaheim Angels in World Series Game 2. They also became the third team in postseason history to score 10-plus runs in a game and not strikeout.

In addition to the team stats, Starling Marte became the fourth Mets player to record three extra-base hits in a playoff game. Jesse Winker became the first Met to have multiple triples in a single postseason. It was an offensive explosion from the Mets, who recorded 12 runs on 14 hits, to keep their season alive and send the series back to Los Angeles.

1999: The Mets lost in a heartbreaker, 10-9, to the Atlanta Braves in Game 6 of the NLCS. It ended the Mets’ season after they attempted to comeback from a 3-0 series deficit.

2006: Endy Chávez made one of the most memorable catches in team and MLB history, robbing Scott Rolen of a home run with a leaping grab over the left field wall in NLCS Game 7. It kept the game tied in the sixth inning, but unfortunately the Mets couldn’t take advantage in the later innings. The night, and the Mets’ season, ended with a Carlos Beltrán strikeout looking on an Adam Wainwright curveball.
