The Pale Hose set out to do damage control against a team that has a lot to lose

Happy Tuesday, White Sox friends. Who else is tired of stats?

With September here and October right on its tail, we’re nearing the end of baseball season, and one we’re all relieved to leave behind. Speaking of relief …

Earlier today, the White Sox announced that righthander Touki Toussaint has been designated for assignment. Touki’s had a tough time since late July on the South Side, throwing down 23 innings with an unrefined 7.43 ERA.

Meanwhile, fresh off Tommy John surgery, Matt Foster has been called up to replace Toussaint, having pitched in two games with the Charlotte Knights after his rehab in August. Foster made a successful comeback to the majors last month, and it was a little odd to see him sent back to Triple-A at all. If we see Foster tonight, it should only be for an inning or so.

Here’s your lineup for the Good Guys:

Nick Nastrini (0-6, 7.04 ERA) is on the mound, and that’s the whole sentence. Jacob Amaya is celebrating a birthday today, so maybe we’ll get a dinger. Or a hit. Or not get shut out by 10+ runs.

Here’s who’s up for the Bad Guys:

Cade Povich (1-7, 6.58 ERA) is pitching for the Orioles tonight, and is pretty evenly matched with Nastrini. The difference here is that Nastrini is almost guaranteed to have no run support behind him, even if he has an excellent performance. The Orioles also have something to live for, as they’re currently half a game behind the Yankees in the AL East, and possess the top wild card spot as of today.

What madness and hijinks await us today as South Siders? Stay tuned, or don’t, actually, because you could choose to be doing so many better things with your time.

Tune in if you dare: 5:35 p.m. CT is first pitch on NBC Sports Chicago, or spare your poor ears the Schriffening and catch the radio broadcast on AM 1000. See you after the jump.
