The New York Mets have activated Reed Garrett from the injured list. In a corresponding move, Alex Young was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

Garrett has been sidelined since July 10 with right elbow inflammation. He was having a solid first season with the Mets, pitching to a 3.64 ERA and 13.5 SO/9 in 42 innings pitched.

Young was also having a great stint with the Mets since being acquired from the Reds. In seven innings with the Mets, the lefty has pitched to a 1.29 ERA with six strikeouts.

With the move, the Mets will have Danny Young as the only left-hander in the bullpen. Garrett, meanwhile, will slide back into the Mets’ options for late innings.

The news was first reported by Tim Britton of the Athletic after Friday’s 6-0 loss.

Vinny Nittoli signed a minor-league deal with the Mets. He pitched to a 1.50 ERA in 12 innings of work between the Athletics and Orioles. Nittoli pitched for the Mets in 2023, pitching to a 2.45 ERA 3 2/3 innings.
