Cup of Coffee: Romero, Rosario power Greenville to walk-off win in extras

7/22 Cup of Coffee:
Boston's affiliates went 2-2 on Sunday. Mikey Romero (pictured) stole the show by homering twice while Ronald Rosario played hero in Greenville's walk-off victory over Bowling Green in extra innings. Gerardo Rodriguez tallied three hits in his Salem debut as the Red Sox extended their winning streak to four. Elsewhere, Justin Gonzales and Anderson Fermin played in the Dominican Summer League All-Star Game.

Richard Fitts took the loss in his start for Worcester after allowing four earned runs on six hits, three walks, one hit batsman, and just one strikeout over four innings. He gave up two homers as his ERA on the season rose to 4.98. Trey Wingenter struck out three in two scoreless frames out of the bullpen. At the plate, Nick Sogard went 2 for 5 with one double and one run scored. Vaughn Grissom and Mickey Gasper both went 1 for 4 with one RBI. Eddy Alvarez drove in a run as well.

Hunter Dobbins took the loss in his start for Portland after surrendering five earned runs on eight hits, two walks, and five strikeouts over five innings. Zach Bryant and Theo Denlinger allowed three additional runs out of the bullpen. Offensively, Roman Anthony stood out by going 2 for 4 with one RBI, one run scored, and two stolen bases. Karson Simas, who scored the Sea Dogs' other run, swiped two bags as well. Kristian Campbell, meanwhile, went 1 for 3 with an RBI single and a walk.

Mikey Romero had an afternoon to remember, going 4 for 5 with a double, a pair of home runs, three RBIs, and three runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Miguel Bleis went 2 for 5 with one RBI, one run scored, and one stolen base. Ronald Rosario made his only hit of the day count by clubbing a two-run walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th. On the mound, David Sandlin went 2 1/3 innings in his start for Greenville. He allowed three earned runs on seven hits, one walk, and four strikeouts. Jedixson Paez and Isaac Stebens combined for eight punchouts over 5 2/3 scoreless frames of relief.

In his first game with Salem, Gerardo Rodgriguez went 3 for 4 with one RBI and one run scored. Marvin Alcantara went 2 for 4 with one RBI, two runs scored, and one stolen base. Fraymi De Leon and Nelly Taylor each stole a base as well. Nazzan Zanetello and Antonio Anderson accounted for three hits (including an RBI single from Anderson) at the top of the lineup. On the flip side, Noah Dean allowed one earned run on one hit, two walks, and five strikeouts over four innings in his start for the Red Sox. Luis Talavera fired two scoreless frames out of the bullpen to notch his first save of the year.

Justin Gonzales and Anderson Fermin represented the Red Sox in Sunday's Dominican Summer League All-Star Game. Gonzales, the American League's starting first baseman, went 1 for 2 with one RBI and one stolen base. Fermin went 0 for 2 with a strikeout after entering the contest as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning. The game ended in a 2-2 tie.

Player of the Day: Mikey Romero is the obvious choice for putting together the first multi-homer game of his young career on Sunday. The 20-year-old infielder finished a triple shy of the cycle and is now batting .302/.304/.642 with seven doubles, three home runs, and eight RBIs in 12 games (56 plate appearances) for Greenville this month. He is currently ranked as the No. 26 prospect in the organization.
