Mariners Game #48 Preview: 5/20/24, SEA at NYY
Sailors in the City
Like so many who take to the Big Apple, the Mariners stagger in looking for a fresh start. In their case, it’s to get back to their winning ways after having lost just their second series since the season’s early days. Fortunately, they’ll be turning to their stopper, Logan Gilbert to take on the Yanks’ fearsome lineup.

Even having grown up on A-Rod/Jr/Edgar lineups, there’s something about seeing Aaron Judge and Juan Soto together that boggles my mind. It feels like it shouldn’t be allowed or something. Today’s the anniversary of Soto’s debut in the field, btw (he’d pinch-hit on 5/19/18).
For their part, the Mariners roll with another Polanco-less lineup. Per Divish, he’ll be available off the bench. But it’s still more concerning than it was with the news that Sam Haggerty is out for the season with a torn Achilles (Divish, again). Still, Urias had some good ABs this weekend, Josh Rojas’s heater continues apace, and J.P. Crawford is in the Bronx, so at least this isn’t a crisis (yet, knock on wood).
