Mark Vientos To Get Recalled, Wendle DFA’d

The Mets will designate Joey Wendle for assignment to clear room for Mark Vientos, according to Joel Sherman.

Wendle slashed just .222/.243/.250/.493 over 36 at-bats. The Mets signed him to a one-year, $2 million deal in the offseason as a backup middle infielder, but he even showed lapses on defense in critical moments.

Sherman reports Yohan Ramirez will also be DFA’d to make room for Joey Lucchesi.

With the offense struggling and a tired bullpen, the Mets have decided to make some moves ahead of tomorrow night’s game in Philly.

Mark Vientos is being recalled from Triple-A Syracuse and will be re-joining the team as reported by Mike Mayer.

Vientos is rejoining the Mets for the second time this season, after his electric three-game performance back in April. In his seven at-bats for the Mets, Vientos had two hits and two RBIs, including his walk-off home run against the St. Louis Cardinals. Vientos has been lighting up Triple-A this year slashing .284/.376/.876 with 30 RBIs and six home runs over 116 at-bats.

In desperate need of offensive production will Vientos be able to bring enough juice to the lineup? There is no word on who Vientos will replace, but he will apparently split time at third with Brett Baty, who has fallen off offensively. The team could cut ties with Joey Wendle, or they could send José Butto down and delay a positional adjustment a couple more days.

Speaking of the rotation, what seemed like a second chance for Adrian Houser to be a part of the starting rotation is now put to a halt. Joey Lucchesi gets the nod for the New York Mets tomorrow night.

In today’s game, with the Mets low on bullpen help, manager Carlos Mendoza made a call to get Houser warmed up. After the game when asked if Houser will be starting tomorrow night Mendoza said, “No, he won’t start now cause he got hot. We were already pushing Reid-Foley today after pretty heavy uses… The fact that we had to use a lot of guys Houser was a last guy.”

Lucchesi has spent the early part of the season down in Triple-A Syracuse and had a 2.58 ERA over seven starts. In his time with the Mets, he had a 3.60 ERA with 73 strikeouts over 85  innings.
