Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Major League Baseball on Tuesday announced the 2022 Rawlings Gold Glove Award Winners.

National League

In the National League, there were two teams in which two players received the award: the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals.

Braves players included pitcher Max Fried and shortstop Dansby Swanson.

The Cardinals, on the other hand, had third baseman Nolan Arenado and utility player Brendan Donovan. win awards.

Other players who were awarded Gold Gloves included Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto, Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker, Colorado Rockies’ second baseman Brendan Rodgers, Chicago Cubs left fielder Ian Happ, San Diego Padres center fielder Trent Grisham, and Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Mookie Betts.

As stated above, Realmuto won the award for catchers in the National League. Mets’ catcher Tomas Nido was also a finalist. As Mets Analytics pointed out (via BaseballPro), Nido ranked first in framing runs, second in blocking runs, second in throwing runs, and first in total fielding runs. He was beaten out for the Gold Glove by Realmuto who ranked third in framing runs, first in blocking runs, fourteenth in throwing runs, and third in total fielding runs. The only category here where he beats out Nido is in throwing runs. There was certainly an argument he should’ve won the award.

Nido was the only Met nominated as a finalist. Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil were all snubbed in their respective categories.

American League

In the American League the Cleveland Guardians, New York Yankees, and Houston Astros each had multiple players win the award.

The Guardians came away with four Gold Glovers: pitcher Shane Bieber, second baseman Andres Gimenez, left fielder Steven Kwan, and center fielder Myles Straw.

The New York Yankees had two players win a Gold Glove: catcher Jose Trevino and utility infielder DJ LeMahieu. The Houston Astros also had two players win the award: Shortstop, Jeremy Peña and right fielder Kyle Tucker.

Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero and Baltimore Orioles third baseman Ramon Urias rounded out the AL award winners.

Of other note, Peña is the first rookie shortstop to win a Gold Glove and the first Astros rookie to win a Gold Glove as well. Former Met Andres Gimenez was also named a Gold Glove Winner.
