[Men's Soccer] Men's Soccer Falcons Sweep Weekly KCAC Honors

0 24

WICHITA, Kan. – After winning both matches this past week, the Friends University Men's Soccer Falcons have swept the weekly KCAC awards, with junior forward Juan Zamora (JR/LaBelle, Florida) winning Offensive Player of the Week honors and sophomore defender Eric Carter (SO/Gainesville, Fla. ) capturing the league's Defensive Player of the Week nod.

Zamora scored both goals in the Falcons' 2-0 victory over Benedictine College last Wednesday night (Mar. 3).

The two goals scored give Zamora 29 for his career, moving him into second place all-time since accurate records began being kept in 2006. Zamora's 14 goals on the season currently rank second in the KCAC.

Carter played a key role in helping the Falcons go 2-0 this past week. His clearances and overall play was key in the shutout victory over Benedictine on Wednesday and he then followed that up with another strong defensive effort and also contributed offensively with a terrific goal to help the Falcons rally in the second half for a 2-1 win at Baker University last Saturday night (Mar. 7).

"Eric and Juan are two players that practice finishing on their own outside of team training," Friends men's soccer head coach Joe Dincecco said. "We believe the goals they scored are a result of the extra time and effort they put into improving their games."

The Falcons, now 8-3 on the season and winners of eight of their past nine matches, will next resume KCAC action on Friday night (Mar. 12) at Southwestern College. Kickoff is set for 8:30 pm in Winfield, Kan.
