0 33

WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University senior INF Kaylen Lassley has been named the KCAC Softball Player of the Week, the league announced today (Mar. 9). This marks the second consecutive week the Falcons have received the weekly top billing, as freshman third baseman Jennifer Garcia earned the award last week.

Lassley continued her scorching start to the season by hitting over .500 to lead the Falcons to a 4-3 record at their annual Invitational this past weekend.

The Salina, Kan. native saved her best for last, connecting with the biggest home run of her career, a two-run, go-ahead blast to center field that snapped an 8-8 gridlock with the University of Jamestown and propelled the Falcons to an 11-8 victory in the final game of the weekend. The hit capped a career-high tying five RBI effort and gave her a pair of homers and eight runs driven in with a .533 batting average over the seven games.

Lassley is now tied for second in the KCAC in both batting average (.548) and home runs (four) while also ranking second in the league with 19 RBIs on the season.

"Kaylen has stepped up tremendously!" said Friends softball head coach Suzanne Unruh.  "She's a senior that you just see leaving it all on the field, no regrets kind of player. She is really giving it her all during her last collegiate season!"

Lassley and the Falcons are next in action tomorrow afternoon (Mar. 10) at home vs. No. 20-ranked Morningside College. The first game is set for 3 pm at Two Rivers Youth Complex.
