WICHITA, Kan. – Kristy Helmers has been selected as the new Friends University Women's Soccer Graduate Assistant Intern Coach, head coach Brent Hobson has announced.

"I'm really looking forward to adding Kristy to the coaching staff," Hobson said.  "She'll be a big addition to the program that will help us improve in multiple areas of our soccer operations."

Helmer's coaching experience includes helping coach Australian Soccer Camps for the past eight years and four seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at Erindale College in Wanniassa, Australia.

She was also the head coach for the Tuggeranong United under 17s national premier league team.

Collegiately, Helmers competed at NCAA D-I program Nicholls State College (La.), where she was a four-year starter and finished her freshman season as the team's second leading point scorer with six goals and five assists. A senior captain, Helmers wrapped up her career at Nicholls State with one goal and two assists in 2019.

Helmers also competed as a shadow player for the School Girls Australian National Team in 2013 & 2014.

A native off Canberra Australia, Helmers prepped at Erindale College and earned team MVP honors in both the 2013 and 2014 campaigns. In 2014, Helmers was the school's Female Athlete of the Year and achieved the highest academic excellence on the women's soccer team.

Helmers will be joining the coaching staff for a program that turned the corner last season under Hobson.

The Falcons advanced to the KCAC tournament title game that resulted in the program's first NAIA National Tournament appearance in 15 years.

Friends is set to begin the 2020 season on Sept. 9 at Southwestern Christian University before opening up the home portion of their schedule on Sept. 12 vs. Mid-America Christian University at Adair-Austin Stadium.
