[Men's Tennis] St. Ambrose falls to Central 4-3
Two third-set super-tiebreakers proved to be the difference as Central College defeated St. Ambrose 4-3 Saturday afternoon at the Quad-City Tennis Club in Moline, Ill.
The Bees dropped the super breakers coming at No. 1 and 2 singles. Jack Schieferdecker fell 10-6 at No. 1 singles and Jose Anchundia lost 11-9 at No. 2.
Matt Zuccato and Gonzalo Pereira provided the singles wins for St. Ambrose, both coming in straight sets. Zuccato earned a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 3 and Pereira dropped just four total games in his 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4.
The other two singles matches went Central's way as Jacob Decker lost 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 and Ryan Wallick dropped a 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) decision at No. 6.
SAU earned the one doubles point by taking two of the three matches. Schieferdecker and Zuccato teamed for a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles while Anchundia and Pereira breezed to a 6-2 win at No. 2. The No. 3 team of Decker and Wallick fell 7-5.
Potential snow has postponed the Bees' dual matches in Dubuque, Iowa, Sunday. St. Ambrose (0-2) is now next scheduled to open CCAC play next Friday against Judson. The dual at the QC Tennis Club is slated to start at 6:30 p.m.
