[Men's Tennis] Hawks Fall in GSAC Home Openers to Westmont, Marymount
RAMONA, Calif. — In a pivotal couple of matches for the No. 25 SDC men's tennis team, the Hawks dropped both contests 5-4 Friday and Saturday.
The Hawks fell first to Westmont on Friday before falling to associate GSAC member Marymount California.
With the pair of losses, the Hawks from to 1-5 on the season and 0-2 in GSAC play.
SDC fell quickly to the Warriors in the Doubles matches. The Hawks forfeit No. 3 Doubles and lost No. 1 Doubles 8-6. Innocent Tidimane and German Ziella won their match 8-4 before heading to singles.
Alonso Tellez won his No. 1 Singles match in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Tidimane won at No. 3 7-6, 6-4 and Ziella won his No. 5 match 6-2, 6-1 but it wasn't quite enough.
Against Marymount, the same singles players for the Hawks won. Tellez with a 6-2, 6-0 decision, Tidimane won 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 and Ziella was next with a 6-0, 6-2 decision. But again like against Westmont, the Hawks found themselves in a 1-2 hole after doubles play. This time, though, Tellez and David Samardzjia won 8-4 in No. 1 Doubles.
The Hawks will take on Concordia Irvine on Tuesday in their next match.
