[Volleyball] Cavs Battle Reinhardt and Point on Consecutive Days
With the Montreat Cavaliers' volleyball team in the heart of their 2017 schedule, they faced two quality AAC opponents on the road this weekend in Georgia.
Friday's matchup was against Reinhardt University (13-3, 4-1) and went to four sets (14-25, 18-25, 25-20, 13-25) before the Cavaliers bowed to the host Eagles.
In that match, Anyla Kryeziu (SR/Prishtina, Kosovo) led the Cavaliers with 13 kills, while Courtney Glover (SR/Nashville, TN) and Jazzy Larsen (SO/Danville, IN) contributed eight and six kills, respectively. Montreat's best set on the evening was the third, where they led by as many as seven points (22-15) before locking in the five-point victory.
Defensively, Kendra Johnson (SR/Ararat, NC) had 13 digs for the visitors in the four-set match and Larsen, Taylor Carrillo (FR/Jacksonville, FL), and Ila Elstein (SO/Jacksonville, FL) each had three blocks for Montreat.
On Saturday, the Cavs had a short turnaround to face the Point Skyhawks (8-5, 4-2) at noon. The Cavaliers took Point to five sets before the Skyhawks prevailed (29-27, 20-25, 18-25, 25-22, 7-15). Kryeziu added a dozen kills, while Johnson had a team-high 21 digs and Rachel Swapp added five kills and five blocks for Montreat. Johnson is third in the AAC with 264 digs this season, while Kryeziu is fourth in the circuit with 180 kills. Abby Graham (SR/Chattanooga, TN) is second in the AAC with 538 assists.
"It wasn't our weekend; we all agree on that," said head coach Kristy Kamer. "We know that we have to get back at it next week and fix some things. We did a lot of good things; we just need to be more consistent."
