GDT: Why is Cincinnati known for chili?

Apparently, Cincinnati chili is a creation of Macedonian, Greek, and Jordanian immigrants in the early and mid-20th century. Gotta love living in a land of immigrants!
But it is not everyone’s favorite. This Deadspin writer rated it below bull testicles, scrapple, and getting hit by a car.
Fortunately the Rays are not in town to eat chili, they are in Cincinnati to play baseball.
