Play-Offs Closer…
The senior county 1st team play Yorkshire 3 at ‘The Edge’ at Leeds University today still in with a chance of making the top two in Division 1 North who will go forward to the play-offs to gain promotion into the Championship. Staffordshire have withdrawn from the final weekend so their results will be expunged from the table for the purposes of promotion and relegation which leaves the table looking:-
| Teams | Pts | P | W | L | F | A |
| Lanarkshire | 33 | 5 | 5 | 0 | 33 | 22 |
| Oxfordshire | 32 | 6 | 2 | 4 | 32 | 34 |
| Northumberland | 31 | 5 | 2 | 3 | 31 | 24 |
| Lothian | 28 | 5 | 3 | 2 | 28 | 27 |
| Yorkshire 3 | 26 | 5 | 1 | 4 | 26 | 29 |
| Warwickshire 2 | 25 | 5 | 3 | 2 | 25 | 30 |
| Nottinghamshire 2 | 23 | 5 | 2 | 3 | 23 | 32 |
| Staffordshire | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
After a good opening performance yesterday against a strong Notts 2 team striving to avoid relegation when they lost narrowly 6-5, they excelled themselves in the afternoon with a 9-2 demolition of their fellow play-off rivals Oxfordshire who have finished their fixtures.
Assuming Lanarkshire win again today against Warwickshire 2, it will be between Lothian and Northumberland as to who gets the other play-off place. Lothian won 8-3 in their only match yesterday and if they were to repeat that result today then North would need to beat Yorkshire 3 6-5 to pip them by a point. Other combinations could apply of course but North just need to keep any points deficit to 2 to achieve the same result. Easier said that done given the history of matches with Yorkshire 3 over the years that have always been close!
The senior county 2nd team completed their fixtures in the depleted Division 3 North with only 5 of the original 8 teams playing in the final weekend, gaining their first win of the season 7-4 over Lancashire 4 and only just losing out 6-5 to Notts 3. That division also concludes this morning from 10.00 a.m. with the Isle of Man needing to beat Notts 3 by 8-3 to clinch the division over Lothian 2 by a point.
