Day 7 Good Day for Aussie Badminton Stars

Wednesday turned out to be a good day for Australia's badminton stars. Anthony Joe's talents were on full display in his match against M Bhatti of Pakistan. Anthony displayed great grit and determination to take the match 22-20, 21-18, and wooed the Aussie fans in the stadium. Anthony takes on HS Prannoy from India on Thursday.

The winning form continued for local Queensland girl Hsuan-Yu Wendy Chen who easily took care of her Faulkland Islands opponent. Wendy is in for the match of her life tomorrow when she takes on No 1 seed and Olympic Silver medallist PV Sindhu from India.

Leanne Choo and Renuga Veeran faced the formidable pair of Ren-Ne ONG and Crystal Wong from Singapore. The Australia doubles pair played extremely well in a hard fought and sometimes desperate display of skills. The scoreline of 20-22, 21-16, 18-21 really does reflect how close the match was. The Aussie pair were unlucky not to be able to pick up the win.

Mixed Doubles pair Sawan Serasinghe and Setayana Mapasa outclassed their opponents from Jamaica. They started strongly dominating the first game, while the second was a little closer. Tomorrow they take on Canada pair Ty Lindeman and Brittney Tam.

Ladies Doubles pair and No 1 seeds Setyana Mapassa and Gronya Somerville start their ladies doubles campaign tomorrow. They take on Alissa Dean and Danielle Whiteside from Fiji.

Matt Chau and Sawan Serasinghe are back on court tomorrow taking on Singapore pair Chrisnanta and Hee.
