Save the Salt / Utah Alliance Position Paper
An open letter to the BLM:
Dear Ms. Whitlock and Mr. Oliver,
After more than 45 days, Save the Salt and Utah Alliance, advocates for the entire land speed racing community, would appreciate an explanation about why the BLM has not responded to our May 17th Position Paper delivered in person to you both as well as other BLM staff at the May 17th Bonneville Summit.
We are puzzled that you have called a quarterly update meeting without acknowledging, or responding to the highly detailed document examining the salt crust loss and various methods of restoration. From Mr. Oliver’s repeated comments to myself, and others, that the BLM considers the situation a priority, we had an expectation of something more than total silence. BLM words seem to differ substantially from its actions.
What have the land speed racing recreation users done to warrant such disrespect from its public lands managers?
Do you believe us to be disingenuous in our actions?
We have worked diligently, openly and honestly with BLM staff for more than a year. We do not understand why our work, a document that probes the salt crust loss in great detail, offers solutions vetted by an independent civil engineer and included dozens of support letters ranging from ordinary citizens to Governors, US Senators and Representatives as well as US racing organizations and businesses means so little to the BLM.
The BLM is well aware that the Position Paper was paid for by Save the Salt and the Utah Alliance membership as well as donations from hundreds of American recreational users. It has also been posted for download for every American to review on the Save the Salt and Utah Alliance websites.
By the silence are we to understand the BLM considers the Position Paper of little or no value to solving the ecological crisis that continues to deteriorate?
We respectfully request an official, written response to the Position Paper in advance of the July 21st conference call. Absent that, we ask you to explain what the conference call is supposed to accomplish?
