RE News – December 2026 SFR Drivers School Update
Hi Everyone,
Here’s what’s new and important for the upcoming 2026 SFR Drivers School.

New 2026 Drivers School format
The 2026 SFR Drivers School will run from Friday afternoon, February 20 through Sunday, February 22. The key change is that activities now start Friday afternoon instead of Friday morning
On Friday afternoon you will:
- Complete front-end meetings and orientation.
- Get additional drive-around time with your instructor.
- Join a Friday evening dinner with your instructor, which is included with your registration.
Track sessions will then run on Saturday and Sunday, finishing with two races. The school will continue to use the same highly regarded instructors and curriculum that SFR has used in recent years.
Path 1 Traditional licensing route
Path 1 is the same as in previous years and is designed for drivers who want to handle all SCCA licensing logistics before the school:
- Become an SCCA member.
- Apply for and receive a Novice Permit from SCCA.
- Submit your approved physical exam to SCCA.
- Complete the required online course.
- Successfully complete the SFR Drivers School.
After successful completion, you are eligible to race as a Novice in any SFR Regional race and work toward sign-off for your full Competition Race License.
Path 2 – “Test drive” the concept
Path 2 is new for 2026 and is intended for drivers who want to experience Drivers School first and finalize licensing details afterward:
- Become an SCCA member.
- Receive a Drivers School Logbook from SFR.
- Complete the required online course.
- Hold a valid state drivers license.
- Successfully complete the SFR Drivers School.
- Submit your Drivers School Logbook and physical exam to SCCA.
After completing these steps, you are also eligible to race as a Novice in any SFR Regional race and work toward your Competition Race License.
Key difference between the two paths
- Path 1: Best if you are committed and want all licensing steps finished before the school. You complete SCCA membership, Novice Permit, and physical up front, then attend the school.
- Path 2: Best if your schedule is tight or you want to “test drive” the experience without all front-end paperwork. You register through MSR, attend Drivers School, and then complete the remaining SCCA licensing logistics afterward.
Both paths end in the same place: you are cleared to race as a Novice in SFR Regional events and can be signed off for your Competition Race License after meeting SCCA requirements.
See you at the Track,
Mike
