Marcus Christiansen and father Claus ‘Speedy’ continued to rip up the record books in FIM-E Super Twin in 2025. The Great Danes continued to stamp out performance levels hitherto unseen with a naturally aspirated twin, with a 6.0779s at a non-championship event in Sweden in June getting below Bob Malloy’s long standing 6.09 that had been a target for the team for a while now. Not content with the ET mark, they also bagged a record class championship title at the end of a ferociously contested series.
After a bit of time to reflect, we spoke to Marcus to get his thoughts on the season and the future, including some insight into a radical new project that is brewing in the outskirts of Copenhagen.
A spectacular year to earn an astonishing sixth championship in a row, how does that feel?
“It feels absolutely amazing — probably our best season to date. We faced the toughest competition we’ve ever seen in Super Twin, so this title is extra special. Per Bengtsson and his team pushed us really hard all year, which made the victory even more meaningful. It’s very satisfying to say that we truly earned it this time — nothing was given to us. We had to step up every single round and push to the limit. It’s been quite different from previous years because we were under a lot more pressure all season, but for our small two-man team to still come out on top feels fantastic.”
Finally getting that world best ET must have been a real highlight – how did that come about and how much further do you think you can take the combination?
“Yes, that was definitely one of the best feelings ever. We’ve worked so hard for it — we’ve been among the top two or three fastest since 2021, always just a fraction away. To finally get there this year, and not just once but three times at two different races, was incredible. Knowing that we can now consistently run at world-record pace is a huge confidence boost.
And we’re certain there’s still more potential in the bike. At the Euro Finals, we had already secured the championship, so we decided to really push for that five-second run. Conditions weren’t ideal, but we went for it anyway and managed our quickest-ever 1/8-mile time — 3.90 seconds — before dropping a cylinder at 4.2 seconds [their World record 6.07 coming off a 3.96]. I truly believe it’s just a matter of time and the right conditions before we break into the fives. The potential is absolutely there.”
The head-to-head matchups with Per Bengtsson looked spectacular – how did you view the competition this season?
“It was the best competition ever! I haven’t been around as long as Per, but I’m sure he’d say the same. Every matchup with him was intense and exciting — great for the fans and for the class. Hopefully next year will be even more spectacular… maybe we’ll see the first-ever side-by-side five-second runs from Super Twin bikes!”
Plans for next year?
“Simple: beat them all again, win a seventh championship, and finally nail that five-second run!
Over the winter, we’ll focus on making the bike lighter and more consistent. The goal is to be solidly in the 6.0 range and frequently dip into the fives. We want to keep pushing the limits and setting new standards for the class.”
You mentioned a longer term project in the race shop last year – are you able to give any updates on that?
“Yes, we’re still working on it, and hopefully it’ll be ready around 2027 or 2028. Right now, I’m waiting for some clarification from the FIM on suspension rules, and once that’s sorted, I’ll really ramp up development. That’s already a bit of a hint — it will be a suspension bike, with an improved engine and most likely a full-scale version of our new exhaust system (the “coffee pots,” “rocket nozzles,” or “afterburners,” depending on who you ask!).”
Sponsors/people to thank?
“Of course, none of this would be possible without our amazing sponsors and supporters: Ransborg, Mosten MC, Kematek/Sunoco, Allingeåbro Motorfestival, Chris & Marleen, Bentec and everyone else who helps out and makes this all happen. Thank you so much for your support — we couldn’t do it without you!”
The Danish duo are always thinking on their next move forward, and the results to date demonstrate that they are at the pinnacle of the V-Twin heap. Will the five happen next year? Well the odds are pretty stacked on the naturally aspirated mark falling sometime soon to Speedy’s Racing, so why not? And suppose the suspension chassis project on the work bench gets approval. What will the result of exploring the envelope in yet another radically different direction, an ethos that has reaped substantial dividends to date?
