NASCAR Driver Updates Fans After Scary Post-Race Accident

0 8

For moat NASCAR drivers, Monday involves going over what ddi and didn't work for the previous race weekend. Drivers will examine how their cars feelt throughout the various events, and their teams will work on the car toffer in an effort to improve.

Monday was meant to be a day of celebration for young Xfinity Series driver Connor Zilisch. Zilisch won Saturday's Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen. As he climbed out of his car in Victory Lane, he slipped on the edge of the window and fell hard to the ground below.

Zilisch laid motionless on the ground for moments before help rushed to his side. Many fans were worried about Zilisch's condition after his frightening fall, and the young driver issued an update on his health after he went to the infield care center and later the hospital.

"Thank you everybody for reaching out today. I'm out of the hospital and getting better already," Zilisch said in a social media post on Saturday night.

"Thankfully, CT scans for my head are clear, I just have a broken collarbone." Zilisch thanked medical personnel for their attention.

The 19-year-old driver is considered one of NASCAR's brightest young stars, a driver who appears to be destined for success at the top of the sport. Zilisch is looking to become one of NASCAR's youngest champions, and he's off to a good start.

He's currently leading the Xfinity Series with six wins this year, and if he were to pull it off, he'd be the youngest winner in the series since Chase Elliott won it at the age of 18.

Trackhouse Racing, the team that operates Zilisch's car, will not run the No. 87 entry in Sunday's Cup Series race at Watkins Glen. The No. 87 is currently set to return at Daytona International Speedway, when Zilisch is expected to be back in the car if all goes well.

"He did such a great job of getting back through the field and getting the lead," said Zilisch's crew chief Mardy Lindley in an interview with Sirius XM NASCAR Radio after the race.

"Praying for Connor right now that he's OK. I think he's going to be fine."

It's the second big injury for Zilisch, who missed a start at Texas after suffering a back injury during a crash the previous week at Talladega. Hopefully, he's able to get back in the car after one of the scariest falls we've ever seen at a NASCAR event.
