Where to for Aussie top level Motorsport?
So all us crusty old blokes pine for the days of Big V8 and hot 6 Aussie Fords, Holdens, and Chryslers, similar to your car, swapping paint.
But of course those cars dont exist any more. SO we have Pretend Mustangs and Camaros (a car which is on death row) on a strict "parity formula" common space frame chassis. And many of us decry Supercars as a pale shadow or sham, trading on their halo. There is a feeling that supercars are stagnant with no real future growth/
Which begs the question what should they race?
After all we all buy twin cabs or hybrids (And they even stuff v8s into twin cabs for a circus side show)
Sure we have (had?) TCR for hot hatches, to everyone except Garry and Barrys indifference. WE have GT3/4 for the euro exotics that we can never aspire to. And we have some hodge podge proddy car series that seems to be BMW and Porsche (and some very old metal?)
Is TA and Sports Sedans the future? IS there something else?
Moving to open wheelers. Every 5 years or so a new "2nd coming" open wheel gold star series is announced with much hoopla. WE had Formula 4. Formula3, Formula Pacific, Formula holden, S5000.
All had a fairly good year or two then quickly diminished grids and then vanishing.
THis year they have really upped their efficiency.
Launched AU3, brought in the cars, then iced the whole deal before a wheel was turned.
Other than Formula V and Ford will we ever have (top level) "wings and slicks"?
SO Im not here bagging or crying "we are all doomed"
Im asking if supercars in its current form isnt the way.... then what? And similar for top class open wheel racing?
What would YOU the enthusiastic punter want to see out there on a sunday arvo
