Michael Christopher, Jr. Wins CBYD Senator’s Cup; Varricchio, Hovey, Theriault, & Plemons Also Score Feature Wins
(Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Speedway hosted round 2 of the Tick Mike Triple Crown for its SK Modified® division with the 50-lap Call Before You Dig Senator’s Cup on Friday, June 20th. The race served as the second of three legs of the TickMike.com Triple Crown and Michael Christopher, Jr. was the winner for the second consecutive week. Christopher’s victory was also his third consecutive victory in the CBYD Senator’s Cup 50-lap feature event. Other feature winners on the night were Paul Varricchio, Jr. in the Late Model feature, Nickolas Hovey in the SK Light feature, Kyle Theriault in the Limited Late Model feature, and Aaron Plemons in the Street Stock feature.
In the 50-lap CBYD Senator’s Cup SK Modified® feature event, Troy Talman and Tyler Chapman led the field to the green flag and they raced wheel to wheel for the lead with Chapman holding the lead by a nose for the first 2 laps. Talman edged his way in front of Chapman to lead lap-3 before getting clear into the lead on lap-4. Dylan Kopec was third behind Talman and Chapman with Mikey Flynn fourth and Cory DiMatteo fifth. Chapman worked his way back to the inside of Talman and he retook the lead on lap-6.
With 10 laps complete, Tyler Chapman was still in the lead with Kopec behind him in second. Flynn was third with Talman back to fourth. Michael Christopher, Jr. was working his way towards the front and he took fifth on lap-10. Lap-11 saw Kopec get around Chapman to take over the lead. Christopher rode behind Talman until lap-14 when he took fourth place. Chapman made a move to the inside of Kopec and the two cars touched with Kopec going around in turn 3 to bring the caution out with 15 laps complete. Chapman was sent to the rear of the field for making contact with Kopec.
Flynn took over the lead back under green with Christopher in second. Michael Gervais, Jr. was up to third with Max Zachem taking fourth. A multi-car incident broke out going down the backstretch that saw Jon Puleo get sideways and collect the cars of DiMatteo and Andrew Molleur along with several other cars that brought out the red and yellow flags with 17 laps complete.
Christopher powered his way back into the lead on the restart with Flynn and Zachem going wheel to wheel for second after they nearly went 3-wide with Gervais on the restart. Todd Owen, Matt Vassar, and Steven Chapman all spun into the turn 3 wall to bring the caution flag out with 19 laps complete.
Christopher took the lead back under green with Zachem second, Keith Rocco third, Flynn fourth, and Marcello Rufrano fifth. Zachem was working Christopher over trying to get to his inside to make a bid for the lead but Christopher was able to maintain the lead. With 24 laps complete, Rocco was now up to third behind Christopher and Zachem with Flynn fourth and Rufrano fifth.
With 15 laps to go, Christopher was still out front with Zachem, Rocco, Rufrano, and Flynn behind him. The top-5 cars had pulled away from the rest of the field with Gervais in sixth followed by Talman, Alexander Pearl, Anthony Flannery, and Noah Korner.
Christopher led the field to the checkered flag to pick up his second consecutive and second overall win of the 2025 season. Zachem finished second with Rocco, Rufrano, and Flynn rounding out the top-5.
June 20 SK Modified® Feature Results
In the 30-lap Late Model feature event, Chris Meyer took the early lead with Adam Gray and Alexandra Fearn lined up behind him. Kevin Gambacorta ran several laps side by side with Wayne Coury, Jr. for fourth place before getting clear on lap-4. Coury slotted into fifth behind Coury with Tom Fearn, Andrew Durand, Bobby Stirk, III, Darrell Keane, and Paul Varricchio, Jr. behind him.
Gray worked his way to the inside of Meyer on lap-10 for the lead and he was able to complete the pass on lap-11 to take over the lead. Alexandra Fearn followed Gray past Meyer and then he took the lead from Gray on lap-12. Gray came right back to the inside of Fearn to retake the lead on lap-12. As the field completed lap-13, Meyer and Alexandra Fearn came together and got into the frontstretch wall to bring the caution flag out with 13 laps complete.
Gray took the lead back under green with Coury taking second. Kevin Gambacorta was now third with Varricchio fourth and Keane was side by side with Durand for fifth. Keane took fifth on lap-16 and he brought Christopher Buffone along with him into sixth to drop Durand back to seventh.
With 10 laps to go it was still Gray in the lead followed by Coury, Gambacorta, Varricchio, and Keane. Stirk spun on the backstretch to bring the caution flag out with 20 laps complete.
Coury took the lead from Gray on the restart with Gray slotting into second place. Varricchio was up to third with Gambacorta fourth and Keane fifth. Gray was able to get back alongside Coury for the lead on lap-25 and he was able to complete the pass. Varricchio moved into second with Gambacorta taking third on lap-26 to drop Coury back to fourth, just in front of Keane.
Varricchio and Gray touched coming out of turn 4 on lap-27 but both cars continued on in first and second. Varricchio was able to get to the inside of Gray coming out of turn 2 on the final lap and he took the lead going down the backstretch and into turn 3. Varricchio led Gray back to the checkered flag to pick up his third win of the 2025 season. Gambacorta finished third with Coury and Keane rounding out the top-5.
June 20 Late Model Feature Results
In the 20-lap SK Light feature event, Paul Arute took the lead at the green flag with Robert Bloxsom, III, Meghan Fuller, Matt Brewer, and Casey Vogt lined up behind him. Bloxsom worked his way to the inside of Arute on lap-4 but Arute was able to maintain the lead by a nose at the line. Bloxsom had the advantage over Arute as they completed lap-5 and he cleared Arute on lap-6. Arute was now wheel to wheel with Fuller for second before he took second on lap-7. Nickolas Hovey was on the charge, taking third from Fuller on lap-7 and then second from Arute on lap-8. Hovey completed his charge to the front by taking the lead from Bloxsom on lap-9. As the field came around to complete 10 laps, the order was Hovey, Bloxsom, Fuller, Arute, and Brewer.
Fuller was looking high and low for a way to get around Bloxsom for second, but Bloxsom was able to keep Fuller behind him. Hovey led the field to the checkered flag to pick up his fourth win of the 2025 season. Bloxsom finished second with Fuller, Arute, and Brewer rounding out the top-5.
June 20 SK Light Feature Results
In the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature event, Kyle Theriault took the early lead at the start of the race with Jeremy Lavoie taking second. Travis Hydar was third in line with Connor Jencik fourth and Devon Jencik fifth. Shelby Swan spun in turn 4 to bring the caution flag out with 4 laps complete.
Theriault took the lead on the restart with Lavoie hanging to his outside for a lap before Hydar took second on lap-6. Lavoie was able to get in line behind Hydar in third just before Matt Clement spun in the middle of turns 1+2, which collected the cars of Darryl Vertefeuille and Swan to bring the caution flag back out with 6 laps complete.
Theriault again took the lead on the restart while Hydar and Lavoie went door to door for second with Lavoie coming out on top of that duel. Gary Patnode was able to get around Hydar to move into third with Hydar fourth and Jason Lafayette up to fifth. The top-5 remained in order until Patnode spun into the turn 1 wall to bring the caution flag back out with 14 laps complete.
Devon Jencik did a 360 spin in turn 2 on the restart to bring the caution back out immediately before a lap could be completed. Rich Hammann was sent to the rear of the field for making contact with Jencik.
Theriault took the lead on the restart with Lafayette moving into second behind him. RJ Surdell moved into third with Lavoie falling back to fourth, just in front of Ari Jencik in fifth place. Theriault led the field to the checkered flag to pick up his first win of the 2025 season. Surdell got around Lafayette in the closing laps to take second with Lavoie and Hydar rounding out the top-5 behind Lafayette.
June 20 Limited Late Model Feature Results
Limited Late Model Points Standings
In the 20-lap Street Stock feature event, Jeff Asselin streaked into the lead at the drop of the green from fourth starting position with Brandon Warren right behind him in second. Sean Petlock was third in the early going with Tyler Trott up to fourth and Aaron Plemons fifth. Trott and Plemons both got by Petlock to move into third and fourth while Asselin continued to lead the race with 5 laps complete.
At the halfway point of the race, it was still Asselin in command with Warren giving chase from second place. Trott was third with Plemons fourth and Petlock still holding fifth. The caution flew with 13 laps complete for a piece of debris on the track.
Warren took the lead on the restart with Plemons holding off Trott for second. Travis Downey was up to fourth with Bert Ouellette taking over fifth. Bill Cote was sixth followed by Jason Raymond, PJ Evans, Petlock, and Isabella Minchella. The caution came back out with 16 laps complete for Roger Mahieu, who spun and came to a stop at the exit of turn 2.
Plemons took the lead on the restart with Warren holding off Downey for second. Trott took third behind Plemons and Warren with Downey now door to door with Ouellette for fourth place. Ouellette took fourth on lap-19 to drop Downey back to fifth, just in front of Raymond as Plemons was pulling away from Warren in second. Plemons led the field to the checkered flag to pick up his second win of the 2025 season. Trott finished third with Ouellette and Downey rounding out the top-5.
