Mikey Flynn Looking For First Win of 2025 in Stafford’s CBYD Senator’s Cup

(Stafford Springs, CT)—As Stafford Speedway’s premier SK Modified® division gets set to tackle its second consecutive extra distance feature event this Friday, June 20th with the CBYD Senator’s Cup, Mikey Flynn and the #24 Ballyheigue Farm team are looking forward to the race.  Dating back to the 2024 season, Flynn and the #24 team have recorded 4 top-10 finishes in the last 5 extra distance events held at Stafford, including a third place finish in last week’s 80-lap feature event.  Flynn finished 6th in the 2024 Senator’s Cup 50-lap feature and he feels good about his chances of adding his first victory of the 2025 season in this year’s CBYD Senator’s Cup.

“I think we’re looking pretty good,” said Flynn.  “Obviously it’s going to be a little different style of driving than last week and there won’t be as much saving the car but we should have a pretty good car.  Hopefully I can pull a better number for our heat race and we can pass some cars so we can start up front.  A win in a race like the Senator’s Cup would be huge for us.  It’s one of the marquee events that you look forward to along with the NAPA SK 5k and the Casella Waste SK 80 and you definitely want to win those races.  You have to get one win in order to get two wins, so hopefully we can get one soon and we can stack more wins later in the year.”

The 2025 season has seen Flynn and the #24 team get off to a great start as they are one of only 3 teams along with Michael Christopher, Jr. and Jon Puleo to record a top-5 finish in 3 of the first 4 events of the 2025 season.  Flynn’s 2025 results have been a continuation of the speed and consistency they showed in 2024.  Flynn notched his first career SK Modified® feature victory at the end of July last season and from there they recorded top-10 finishes in all but one of the final 11 races of the season.  That speed has carried over to 2025 where Flynn has finishes of second, third, and fourth to go along with an 18th place finish on May 30th.

“I think things have been on the up for us and we’ve been able to show great speed all season so far,” said Flynn.  “First things first, you have to have good speed in order for the results to come and we’ve done a good job with that.  We had the 80 lapper last week and we showed we can run up front in the longer races.  We’ve only had one hiccup so far where we didn’t finish in the top-5 this season.  We ran in the top-5 for most of last season so it hasn’t surprised us at all this year.  The speed was there in the car last year and it’s just carrying over to this season and we’re still making small gains and that’s showing on the track.  Thanks to my family and my crew, Keith Rocco Racing, Pettit Racing Engines, Place Motors, Auth Fuels, Gio’s Pizzeria, Richard Green Insurance, Williams Race Gears, and Troyer Race Cars.”

With Flynn and the #24 team having finishes of second, third, and fourth so far during the 2025 season, all that is missing is a victory.  Flynn has been very close to victory in 2025, chasing Puleo to the checkered flag during the season opening NAPA Spring Sizzler® event and finishing third in a 3-way duel with Christopher and Puleo that was fought out over the closing laps of last week’s Casella Waste SK 80.

“I sure hope a win is coming for us,” said Flynn.  “We’ve been so close so sometimes second, third, or fourth is hard to swallow because you want to win so bad and chances to win races don’t come along that often.  We definitely didn’t need the last caution last week.  The second to last restart I think I had things timed up perfectly coming out of turn 2 and that was my good shot to win the race but the caution flew again and I didn’t time things up as well on the final restart.  That was disappointing but you have to take the good runs as they come and kind of roll with it.  If we can keep on doing what we’ve been doing and shoot for finishing up front, I think a win will come for us.”

Flynn’s results see him currently sitting in third place in the 2025 SK Modified® standings, trailing only Christopher and Puleo.  Flynn has improved his finishing position in each of the last 2 seasons, finishing the 2023 season 8th in points and the 2024 season 5th in points.  Despite his current status of 3rd in the standings, Flynn says he is trying to not pay any attention to the standings while focusing on winning each race as they happen.

“Honestly I’m trying to not really pay attention to the points,” said Flynn.  “If we can keep running up front every week, the results will come for us.  The goal is to try to win every week and get the most out of the car every week and if we can do that, the points will be there for us.  My Mom did tell me this week that I’m third in points but I’m trying to not look at it right now.  I think our routine is pretty good with how we set up the car and maintain the car each week and that leads to good results on Fridays.”
