Marquee Triple Header Highlights Weekly Peterborough Speedway Action
An annual visit by the travelling APC Late Model and Dayco Super Stock teams, along with a 50 lap shootout for the home track Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stocks played to the Saturday, June 14th Central Ontario crowd at Peterborough Speedway.
With a dozen cars in the starting field, the Dayco Super Stocks were first on the grid for a 50-lap main event that saw defending race champion Carson Nagy and Lane Zardo on the front row for the opening round of the tour’s 2025 line-up. From the drop of the green flag, Nagy and Zardo were joined by Nic Ramsay in a 3-car battle for the race lead. Shawn Chenoweth, Coltin Everingham and Anthony DiBello were locked in a fight of their own for the next 3 positions in the running order. Nagy took sole possession of the race lead and by the time the lap counter showed 13 circuits complete, he had started to work through some of the slower race traffic. At the half-way mark, the driver of the No. 93 machine had built-up a half track’s advantage over 2nd place and was never challenged again on his way to the checkered flag. The caution-free feature was Nagy’s 4th Dayco Super Stock win in 5 Peterborough Speedway starts. Ramsay, Zardo, Chenoweth and Everingham completed the top 5 positions. DiBello, Connor Maltese, Ryan Dyson, Hudson Nagy, Brad Lavalle and Jacob Booth were next across the line.
Craig Cole and Alex Dallaire were on the front row as a field of 26 Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stockers – including several invaders – came to the line in search of a $250 winner’s payday. Nic Ramsay grabbed the early race lead, with the pace slowed for a debris caution with less than a handful of laps completed. He held the top spot – despite being challenged by Phil Givens and Craig Cole – when the race was restarted. With 3 and 4-wide action commonplace throughout the running order, Givens took the lead following a lap 18 caution, but he’d surrender the spot to Ramsay a few laps later. With lapped traffic forcing some aggressive racing, Givens and Ramsay would swap the lead back and forth several times over the closing stages. With just over a handful of laps remaining, Tegan Stanley would put ‘Rhonda the Honda’ into the fight, but the No. 23 ride could only get close at the checkered flag. Givens scored the win over Stanley and Ramsay. Sam Arnott and Alex Dallaire rounded out the top 5.
With 100 laps slated to settle the score, Connor Pritiko and former series champion Jo Lawrence brought the 19-car starting field to the green flag for the Spectra Premium 100. Pritiko was the early race leader, with quick time qualifier Jake Sheridan following him into the runner-up position. A wreck in the 3rd turn produced a red flag for track clean-up and damaged several contenders. Sheridan took control of the field with Ray Morneau taking 2nd as the lead duo neared the halfway mark. Dale Shaw brought his No. 83 ride into 3rd, with 2-time defending track Peterborough champion Ryan Kimball taking 4th. Sheridan was working through the tail-end of the field when a pair of yellow flags slowed the pace. The top 3 in the running order started to break away from the 4th place car when a yellow flag with just over a handful of laps remaining produced a last chance dash for the cash. Sheridan held on for the win, with Shaw, Morneau, Kimball and Josh Stade completing the top 5. Pritiko, Junior Farrelly, Shawn Chenoweth, Dan McHattie, Lawrence, Tyler DiVenanzo, Shae Gemmell, Kendra Adams, Cory McAllister, Cole Quinton, Glenn Styres, Jacob Mercer, Taylor Holdaway and Cory Luciano rounded out the finishing order.
Peterborough Speedway Bone Stock preliminary rounds went to Phil Givens with a pair. Craig Cole, Alex Dallaire, Kyle Novis and Nic Ramsay had the others.
All finishing positions are unofficial and subject to scoring review and post race inspection.
Bullring bullet points: Invader Nic Ramsay had a strong night in his first 2025 Peterborough Speedway start. The driver of the No. 07 machine finished 2nd in the 50-lap Super Stock feature and 3rd in the Bone Stock headliner…Tegan Stanley’s runner-up effort in the 50-lap Bone Stock feature earned the driver of ‘Rhonda the Honda’ a $180 track payday and a $25 bonus from Clarke Motorsports Communications for being the highest running local racer at the halfway point…A day before Father’s Day, Dan Kimmerly made his first start in the team’s familiar No. 01 Mini Cooper that had been driven a week earlier by his daughter Shannon Cappuccitti…Shawn Chenoweth ‘did the double’ running all 150 laps of the Super Stock and Late Model main events…It was a rough night for home track Late Model runner Jacob Mercer. His No. 81 ride was collected in an early race wreck and ran most of the show without a hood or right-front fender. He completed 65 laps of the race distance and was credited with a 17th place finish. Ryan Kimball’s 4th place run in the 100-lap APC Late Model finale was the best showing for the local contingent, while defending event champion Dan McHattie was 9th at the checkered flag.
Next on the 2025 Peterborough Speedway schedule is the track’s annual Autism Awareness Night, in support of CNAF. Weekly race action will include the home track Bone Stock, Renegade Truck, Late Model and Junior Late Model divisions, along with the year’s only appearance by the Can-Am TQ Midgets. Spectator gates open at 5:00, with the first Great Canadian RV green flag at 6:00.
