Unpopular Opinion - Truck racing in the UK
Its time to stop truck racing in the UK.
Why?
They cause havoc and destruction to circuit infrastructure whenever they fall off (which is most races), causing timetable delays and race cancellations which then cause knock-on effects later in the season.
Brands Hatch last weekend saw significant delays for one truck rolling over and in a different race another truck flattened the Armco to the point where the meeting was abandoned, leaving the TARC and JSCC races getting scrubbed.
The trucks racing today are very different to when they first speared in the UK in the 80s, they are far far faster and purpose-built, the lack of a need to drive them home on the road means they get driven like Bangers right out of Wimbledon stockcar stadium. mashing through each other in ways the BTCC could never dream of.
The trail of destruction is staggering, yards of Armco wiped out, the racing surface chewed up and coated in oil, not to mention the safety requirement if large areas of spectating zones fenced off like when one truck vaulted the barrier at Thruxton the other year.
From what I've seen trackside and in the motorsport industry, club racers and teams utterly despise them for the destruction, many marshals merely tolerate them at best, spectators come to see them one and never come back.
I love trucks, they are my career, and I'm obviously a racing fan but in 2025 they have no place on British circuits.
