BULLS GAP, Tenn. – Volunteer Speedway will open the 51st year of exciting racing action on the legendary high banks with running of the $12,000-to-win Scott Sexton Memorial “Spring Thaw” on Saturday, April.12. The race will be broadcast on FloRacing. … Open practice is scheduled Friday, April 11.

Along with the Scott Sexton Memorial Spring Thaw for Super Late Model, there will also be racing in Sportsman Late Model, Street Stock and Front Wheel Drive.

Scott Sexton captured Super Late Model championships at Volunteer Speedway in 1991 and 1995. He passed away in 2013, at age 46. Sexton, from Pigeon Forge, scored the biggest victory of his career in 1992 at Volunteer Speedway as he defeated a stellar field of the nation’s top dirt late model drivers in winning the Mello-Yello 100 for a payday of $12,500. Other big victories during his career include the Rusty Wallace Pontiac 100, Banquet Table Buffet 100, Action Attraction Photos 100, Dalton Direct Carpets 100, Lance Cunningham Ford 100, and East Boulevard Motors Shootout 100, all at the “World’s Fastest Dirt Track” – Volunteer Speedway.
