Motorsport with a difference will come to the Zwartkops Raceway
Motorsport with a difference will come to the Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria this weekend.
The venue will host a hill climb, with the 2000 Metre Top of the Hill event to accommodate 58 cars.
Competitors will tackle a two-kilometre route one at a time, running anticlockwise from the track’s Turn Four, around the Hairpin, through Turn One, past the pits, through Turn Seven and through the Table Top section, with the finish line halfway down the hill.
The event has attracted a wide and diverse range of entries, roughly divided into four categories.
The largest category will be that for Modified Saloon Cars, with pre-event favourites to include those of Reghardt Roets (BB Motorsport Nissan GTR R35), Pieter Zeelie (Zeelie Auditors Toyota MR2 Turbo), Steve Clark (Cobra Roadster), Franco Scribante (Nissan GTR R35), Pieter Joubert (Lotus Exige), Aldo Scribante (Scuderia Scribante Audi S4), Charl Joubert (A One Bakkie Spares Lotus Exige), Dawie Joubert (Wild Rose Gin Lotus Exige), Claire Vale (Wynn’s Oils Subaru BRZ) and Jonathan Mogotsi (VW Motorsport Polo GTI).
A diverse Historic Car category will see entries like Ian Schofield’s 1977 Investchem March 77B, Mark du Toit’s TAR 1995 Opel Astra V8, Warren Lombard’s 1965 Pepboys Automotive Ford Cobra, James Temple’s 1965 Lindenberg Shelby Daytona Coupe, Mark du Toit’s 1965 TAR Ford Fairlane, Seef Fourie’s TAR Ford Daytona, Paige Lindenberg’s Lindenberg 1968 Ford Fairlane and Gavin Rooke’s 1970 Dutchmann Porsche 911.
The Supercar category will see entries like the Ford Shelby SuperSnake models of Joshua O’Callaghan, Vinesh Padayachy, Paul Malatjie and Deon Smith, the Tom Campher Volvo EX30 of Vic Campher, the AMG Experience Mercedes-Benz of Mohammad Hoosain and the Porsche GT3 of Vic Campher.
Running in the class for Open-Wheeler Cars, the purpose-built Weltevreden Wines Gould GR55 of Andre’ Bezuidenhout should start as the event’s overall victory favourite.
He will be joined in the class by Josef Kotze (Top Products Birkin S3), JM Gerber (Van Diemen Formula M) and Renzo Ribiero (Metal Used Spares VW GTI Swift).
Each competitor will get four practice runs and a qualifying run on Friday, plus a final qualifying run on Saturday.
After that a series of elimination runs will leave three quickest runners to fight it out in every class.
Finally, at the end of the day, the three quickest top racers will contest the overall Top of the Hill title.
Tickets will be available from the gate at R150 for both days, with kids under the age of 12 going in for free.
