2024 Willis Racing Super Pro Motorcycle Shootout

The second annual Willis Racing Shootout took place over the weekend of July 26-28 at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, IL.

Friday night’s gamblers race had 25 participants getting a jump on the weekend. In the final, it came down to Tom Klemme and Jeremy Murphy. Unfortunately, Jeremy’s bike would not stay powered up, so Tom made a single pass down the dragstrip to take home the cash.

Qualifying for the Shootout on Saturday morning established Beau Drexler from Ellis, Kansas, as the #1 Qualifier with .001 light to take home the $250 Cash prize from Monster Race Products.

60 entries traversed the newly paved drag strip for the first round of competition. After the first round of competition on Saturday the skies opened up and shut the racing down.

Sunday morning resumed the shootout competition. As the day went on, Dan McCarten was making his way through the stacked field, taking out Scott Leonard, Malik Purnell, Jaylen Burris, Beau Drexler, Joe Klemme, and taking the bye in the sixth round to the final against John Markham. John took a little different path to the final as he lost both of his entries in the first round making him buy back to get back into competition. The second round saw John lose one of his entries to Thomas Cole; with the other entry, he took out Joe Klemme, Tyler Pearson, Janie Palm, Brandon Childress, and Thomas Cole. Dan and John made it interesting in the final, Dan cut a .008 light to John’s .026 to run 8.222 on his 8.20 dial. John ran 9.007 on his 8.97 dial making the MOV .0330 in Dan’s favor.

Dan is having quite the year as he just won Jeremy England’s Midwest Sportsman Motorcycle Racing $10K event at the end of June. CONGRATULATIONS TO DAN MCCARTEN!

The Wally race saw two Havana veteran racers battle it out in the final, with Bob Moran defeating Jeremy Murphy for the prestigious trophy.
