LAPCEVICH TO STORM OHSWEKEN WITH THUNDER ON THE GRAND HOMECOMING

Defending NASCAR champion chooses Ohsweken as only NASCAR Canada race in 2024

April 18, 2024, OHSWEKEN, ON – Treyten Lapcevich will make his only NASCAR Canada appearance this year when he tries to defend his victory at Ohsweken Speedway in the series’ only dirt race. Thunder on the Grand is Ohsweken’s three-day mid-season extravaganza featuring NASCAR Canada, big horsepower sprint cars and flat track motorcycles over three days from Thursday, July 11 through Saturday, July 13^th, 2024.

Lapcevich has shown great prowess racing on the clay, and track owner Glenn Styres is backing the Grimsby youngster to show up and wow the fans.

Lapcevich won the inaugural Canadian NASCAR dirt race in 2022 with a late-race pass on Canadian sensation Stewart Friesen. He finished runner-up to NASCAR legend Ken Schrader in his second attempt in 2023, and then he found victory lane again in the second half of last year’s double header.

“Treyten Lapcevich will definitely sell tickets for us when he returns to the Big O,” said speedway General Manager Clinton Geoffrey. “The crowd erupted in 2022 when he beat Friesen to the checkered flag, and our fans know this is their only chance to see him race at home this year.”

Lapcevich executed the most successful season in NASCAR Canada history last year winning more than half of the races on route to his first series championship. He rode that success to a big opportunity in the United States this year.

Lapcevich recently announced he will compete full time for Chad Bryant Racing in the ultra competitive zMax Cars tour racing mostly in the southern United States. The move is his next progression towards racing stardom for the driver yet to celebrate his 20^th birthday.

Making his Ohsweken return even more special this year is the announcement that his crew chief for the event will be older brother Cayden Lapcevich. Cayden won the NASCAR Canada championship at just 17 years old before turning his attention to working on race cars rather than driving them.

Lapcevich is crew chief in the ARCA Menards Series for superteam Venturini Motorsports working with popular driver Toni Breidinger. Lapcevich is no stranger to turning wrenches on NASCAR Canada cars as he served as crew chief for Canadian legend Andrew Ranger in recent years.

“We are proud to host a homecoming for the Lapcevich boys,” said Geoffrey. “Any time our locals see success on racing’s biggest stages it is special to have them return to their roots.

“Treyten has plenty of laps here at Ohsweken in both the NASCAR stock cars and our own crate sprint cars racing for Glenn Styres Racing.”

OHSWEKEN, ON, 18 Avril 2024 –  Treyten Lapcevich fera sa seule apparition pour Nascar Canada cette année lorsqu’il tentera de défendre sa victoire à l’Ohsweken Speedway dans la seule course «dirt race». Thunder on the Grand est le spectacle de mi-saison de trois jours d’Ohsweken mettant en vedette Nascar Canada, des voitures sprint de grande puissance et des motocyclettes sur piste plate pendant trois jours, du jeudi 11 juillet au samedi 13 juillet 2024. 

Lapcevich a fait preuve de grandes prouesses en course sur la terre battue, et le propriétaire de la piste, Glenn Styres, soutient le jeune homme de Grimsby pour qu’il se montre à la hauteur et épate les fans.

Lapcevich a remporté la première course canadienne de Nascar «dirt race» battue en 2022 grâce à un dépassement en fin de course de la sensation canadienne Stewart Friesen. Il a terminé deuxième derrière la légende de la Nascar Ken Schrader lors de sa deuxième tentative en 2023, puis il a retrouvé le chemin de la victoire lors de la deuxième partie de la double course de l’année dernière. 

“Treyten Lapcevich vendra certainement des billets lorsqu’il reviendra au Big O”, a déclaré Clinton Geoffrey, directeur général de l’autodrome. “La foule a explosé en 2022 lorsqu’il a battu Friesen jusqu’au drapeau à damier, et nos fans savent que c’est leur seule chance de le voir courir à domicile cette année”.

Lapcevich a réalisé la saison la plus réussie de l’histoire de Nascar Canada l’an dernier en remportant plus de la moitié des courses, ce qui lui a permis de remporter son premier championnat de la série. Il a profité de ce succès pour saisir une grande opportunité aux États-Unis cette année.

Lapcevich a récemment annoncé qu’il participerait à temps plein pour Chad Bryant Racing au circuit ultra compétitif des zMax Cars, principalement dans le sud des États-Unis. Il s’agit d’une nouvelle étape vers la célébrité pour ce pilote qui n’a pas encore fêté son 20e anniversaire.

Ce qui rend son retour à Ohsweken encore plus spécial cette année, c’est l’annonce que son chef d’équipe pour l’événement sera son frère aîné Cayden Lapcevich. Cayden a remporté le championnat Nascar Canada à l’âge de 17 ans avant de se consacrer à l’entretien des voitures de course plutôt qu’à leur pilotage.

Lapcevich est chef d’équipe dans la série ARCA Menards pour le superteam Venturini Motorsports et travaille avec le populaire pilote Toni Breidinger. Lapcevich n’est pas étranger au travail sur les voitures de Nascar Canada, puisqu’il a été chef d’équipe de la légende canadienne Andrew Ranger au cours des dernières années.
