Ex IMSA Racer JC Perez Jailed
One of the latest additions to sportscar racing’s hall of infamy had their fate secured in the District of Massachusetts criminal court yesterday.
Ex IMSA GTD racer JC Perez, was sentenced to 5 years in prison (plus three years of post-release supervision), with property seized against a $30 million forfeiture order after a three year fraud case surrounding a conspiracy to submit over $109 million in false and fraudulent medicare claims by Perez and a group of associates.
Perez, a US-domiciled Colombian national featured in Lamborghini Super Trofeo, GT World Challenge and IMSA GTD competition from 2017-2019 until law enforcement began to catch up with him.
The P1 Motorsport effort, latterly featuring the uniquely-liveried P1 Motorsport’s ‘Chupacabra’ Mercedes AMG GT3 (pictured top) raced at Daytona and Sebring in 2019, the effort cancelled abruptly with the team suggesting that a back injury for Perez was the reason behind its cessation.
