#22 United Autosports Oreca Tops Final Session
The final track session of the 2022 FIA WEC Prologue test at Sebring International Raceway saw three more hours of action, one significant accident and many more questions than answers.
The incident befell Brendon Iribe in the #56 Team Project 1 Porsche after a clash at the exit of T1 saw the Porsche off at high speed and backwards into a concrete wall, Brendon is mercifully OK, the car significantly less so. The team are now working to source a replacement in time for the race this week!
Better news in the final 30 minutes of the session for the #71 Spirit of Race Ferrari, the car back on track after repairs from a significant ‘off’ in the Sunday Morning session for Franck Dezetoux.
The session saw a second red flag, with just over 10 minutes remaining, ironically for the fastest car in the session, the #22 United Autosports Oreca, the fast time set by Felipe Albuquerque, the late session incident for Phil Hanson in T17, the car making contact with the barrier backwards but with seemingly little damage aside from a broken rear wing element. The session would not be restarted.
That made it the third of four sessions to be topped by an LMP2 car, with a different car topping each of the four track sessions.
The second fastest in the session was the quickest of the Hypercars, the #36 Alpine just under two tenths off Albuquerque’s mark.
The #31 WRT, #9 Prema and #23 United LMP2 Oreca’s completed the top 5 before the second of the top class cars, the #708 Glickenhaus features, sixth fastest in the session with the two Toyotas 8th and 13thin the overall order.
GTE Pro saw the #64 Corvette top the times, a 1:56.476 for Tommy Milner edging the first of the Porsches, this time the #91 back by a handful of hundredths.
GTE AM was again topped by the #77 Dempsey Proton Porsche, this time with Harry Tincknell setting the quickest time a 1:57.787 ahead of the #46 Project 1 Porsche (Matteo Cairoli) and #21 AF Corse Ferrari (Toni Vilander).
