BRANDON VAN STEDUM SWEEPS 6-SHOOTERS! MALOUF CRUISES IN MIDWEST DASH SERIES!

MARSHFIELD, WI, May 8, 2021 – Many Mother’s on Mother’s Day weekend, showed up at the half-mile paved oval of Marshfield Motor Speedway, and witness 6-divisions of exciting racing, here today!  Fans and drivers alike, were treated to some great weather for the spring opener.

In qualifying for the Super Late Models, it was Verona, WI driver John Beale topping the charts with a lap time of 18.243 seconds.  Mark Eswein was second in qualifying and Brian Hakala, third.  In the Dash 4 Cash, Wausau, WI driver Mark Mackesy cruised to the win, with Mark Eswein finishing in the runner up position.  Scoring heat wins in the super late models tonight, it was Curt Tillman and Mark Mackesy finding their way to the McDonald’s Drive Thru Victory Lane.

Once the cars took to the track for the super late model feature, it was Harley Jankowski and Dillon Mackesy leading the field to the green flag.  Mackesy, who was piloting the familiar bright green #93, would jump out to the early lead.  With Curt Tillman running second, it was Mike Reichenberger holding down the third spot.  Dillon Mackesy and Curt Tillman pulled away from the field by 6-7 car lengths, five laps into the A-main.  At the half-way point of the race, Dillon Mackesy had clean air, as he was still holding a commanding lead.  As John Beale, Mark Eswein, and Darren Jackson started to work their way through traffic, all moving into the top five positions, it appeared Dillon Mackesy and Curt Tillman’s cars were going away on them.  With Mackesy starting to get loose, it looked as if Tillman’s car was starting to push up the track in the corners.   On lap 20, it was John Beale working his way to the inside of Tillman for the runner up position.  Now, with just 14 laps remaining, Beale had his sights set on a very fast Dillon Mackesy machine.  The fans were starting to edge to the front of their seats, as it was very noticeable that Beale was closing in on Mackesy.  With 9 laps remaining, Beale worked his way to the inside of Mackesy as the drivers entered turn one.  Beale cleared Mackesy midturn, but Mackesy darted back to the inside of Beale as the two cars exited turn two.  It was a great move made by the youthful driver in Dillon Mackesy, however, Beale out motored Mackesy moving down the back stretch, once again, clearing Mackesy’s #93 machine.  With Beale comfortably out front with just a few laps remaining, it was evident that the handling on Mackesy’s car was going away on him.  Darren Jackson worked his way past Mackesy for the second spot with three laps remaining.  But once flagman Geno Eckes threw the checkererd flag, it was John Beale earning the feature win.  With Darren Jackson grabbing the second spot, it was Dillon Mackesy holding off Mark Eswein for the third spot.  Rounding out the top five, it was Illinois driver Curt Tillman having a great day, coming home fifth.

The 6-Shooters look to be an up and coming division of racing.  With this being a stock six-cylinder division of racing, many drivers are able to hit the track at an affordable cost, and have a lot of fun.   Coming off a track championship in 2020, Brandon Van Stedum looked very fast in practice today.  Van Stedum earned the top spot in qualifying, with Matt Moore tripping the clock second fastest.  Heat winners today were Joshua Zacharius and Brandon Van Stedum.  In feature action, Joshua Zacharius motored to the early lead, with Brandon Van Stedum hot on his bumper.  At the half way point of the 6-Shooter feature event, it was Brandon Van Stedum eclipsing the hot rod of Zacharius for the top spot.  Van Stedum would go on to capture his first checkered flag of the season.  With Joshua Zacharius holding down the second spot, Gary Haarklau made a last lap pass of Pat Literski for the final podium position.  With Literski finishing fourth, it was John Wendt finishing fifth.

Once the Bandits hit the track for their main event, it was Chris Boykins grabbing the early lead.  Boykins lead was brief, however, as Hunter Landwehr motored his race car to the top spot from his outside second row starting position.  Eric Brietenfeldt worked his #14 car to the second spot, and was looking to put pressure on Landwehr for the race lead.  Hunter Landwehr was on the wheel, working hard to keep his #85 car out front.  Branden Sischo made a last lap pass of Breitenfeldt to put his car in the second spot, but tonight, it was Hunter Landwehr grabbing his first career feature win.  Hunter’s win was very popular with the Marshfield crowd, as they cheered loudly for him as the #85 hit victory lane.  With Sischo and Breitenfeldt finishing second and third respectively, Tom Lecher and Chris Tolliver rounding out the top five.
