Penske PC6, AMT, 1/25

0 5
Hi

so I finished another one...

There are not many plastic kits of old Indycars, and the few that exist seem to be hard to get in Europe, while shipping costs from the US are prohibitive these days... (if anyone from Europe wants to sell the AMT Eagle or Hall of Fame set for a reasonable price, I'm listening...) So I was glad to get Mario Andrettis 1978 Penske PC6 in used condition. And used it was: some parts were partly sawed (might have been the start of a conversion), some painted with stinking enamel paint that was smelling even after >10 years and some parts were missing completely. Fortunately 3D printers can help with that: the lower (blue painted) part of the body, the firewall, the cam covers, ignition and also the tires are 3D printed. I also had to scratch some suspension parts from plastic rods.
But even the parts that were not missing were not great; I don't know if it's possible to build this kit completely straight; in the end I glued the whole engine/rear suspension assembly slightly askew to the body so that the wheels were on the ground... I mean Indycars do have asymetric setups, right?
The cowling was too small as well, to make it fit one should probably have to add 1-2mm of plastic strip between the cowling parts at the rear.
I added the usual wires and belts, the skirts are made from painted Tamiya tape.

Decals are made by Indycals, the car was painted with TS26, TS8, Blue made from TS15 lightened with some TS10, Mr. Super Clear on top.

Hope you like it.
