Hour 1 – #7 In Trouble In Hour One

0 9

The opening hour of the 12 Hours of Sebring has seen both DPi championship-contenders run into trouble with the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R. being handed a penalty and the #7 Acura Team Penske ARX-05c being driven behind-the-wall with an issue to the car’s intercooler.

The penalty to the #10 Cadillac was handed down after Renger Van Der Zande switched lanes before reaching the finish line at the start of the race. The team served a drive-thru and is currently running seventh in class.

Currently leading in DPi is the #6 Acura Team Penske ARX-05c of Dane Cameron. They have a three-second lead on Sebastian Bourdais in the #5 Mustang Sampling Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R. All teams have completed their first round of pitstops are now beginning to settle into a rhythm.

The #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R. has Pipo Derani onboard, it’s in third.

In GTLM, BMW looks strong with the #25 BMW M8 of Conor De Phillippi holding off the #3 Corvette C8.R. Unlike in DPi, there have not been any significant dramas in GTLM. Some of the GTLM cars had to contest with slower LMP2 cars at the start of the race but with pitstops being completed, that problem has abated.

The #24 BMW M8 of Jesse Krohn is in fourth. The best-placed Porsche is the #911 Porsche 911 RSR of Nick Tandy which moved up to third late in the hour.

A Full Course Yellow for debris shook up the running order in GT Daytona as some cars dove for the pits before the FCY came out. Currently leading is the #63 Scuderia Corsa Weathertech Racing Ferrari 488 GT3, but that car still needs to make its first pitstop so will drop down the order.

The #16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R led for much of the first hour of the race after starting from pole. They will cycle back to the front once the #63 Ferrari and the #48 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 make their first pitstop.

Patrick Kelly in the #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports ORECA 07 has dominated the field in the opening hour, he leads the class by over one minute.
