Motorplex on a Pedestal – Night Thunder TV Returns, Elevated.
The popular Night Thunder TV show returns in 2020 for its seventh season, but it’s back with a big lift.
After steering the helm of the Nationwide Series in its first two-years – Dean Neal returns to Executive Produce the show.
“Back in 2013… Gary Miocevich, Kevin Prendergast and Gavin Migro, conceived of a content platform to showcase the greatest purpose-built Motorsport venue in the world,” explained Neal.
“Night Thunder was in our DNA, from the Claremont days and was always a logical name. However we always hoped it would eventually incorporate other aspects and activities that we do at the Motorplex… Hopefully that will eventuate one day.”
“I am rapt to be back behind the steering wheel of Night Thunder once again.”
A demonstrable lift in production quality is expected.
Neal’s firm relationships with a number of Television industry movers and shakers has seen a full Outside Broadcast, featuring Box Lens cameras, sound design and elevated content coverage across the board in store, this summer.
“Channel 7 in particular are very keen to support the show in whatever way they can and we are extremely grateful for that.”
Popular Supercars commentator Matt Naulty will eventually return to voice the shows, plus local Channel 7 news reporter Amber Johnston will be the primary roaming pit reporter each event night.
2020 sees more consistent and timely scheduling of shows.
Current 2020-21 Night Thunder TV Schedule (expected to grow):
- 31st October – Power Palooza (THIS Sunday, Nov 8)
- 14th November – King of Wings (Sunday, Nov 22)
- 5th December – WA Sprintcar Title (Sunday, Dec 13)
- 26th December – WA Speedweek (Sunday, Jan 3)
- 28th December – WA Speedweek (Sunday, Jan 10)
- 27th March – Gold Cup (Sunday, April 4)
- 17th April – Tentative Date (Gold Cup) TBC
“The undertaking is to have all shows aired the Sunday week after an event – typically around 3pm Nationally on 7mate and then available on the 7plus digital catch-up platform.”
Neal has spent many years working in a wide variety of Television projects ranging from Supercars, WAFL, AFL, Summernats, MotorEX, CAMS, Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars, Parramatta Speedway, ANDRA Pro Series, Australian Rally, the Finke Desert Race, AUS-X Open Moto-X, Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix, Tour Down Under Cycling, Equestrian in the Park and much more as a Television Producer and Director.
“2020 saw an interesting turn with COVID obviously. Being stuck in WA actually opened some opportunities with AFL and WAFL Football Production in WA for me, which I am eternally grateful for,” Neal explained. “These new local relationships I believe will help our aims with Night Thunder and Perth Motorplex into the future.”

The opening round of the Maddington Toyota Series will air this Sunday at 3pm, Australia-wide – on 7mate.
