NLS Double-Header Season Finale Cancelled Due To COVID Lockdown
The final race weekend of the Nürburgring Endurance Series 2020 has been cancelled.
The double header planned for November 7th and 8th has been pulled in direct response to enhanced lockdown measures implemented by the German Federal Government as COVID-19 infection rates continue to rise sharply.
The cancellation comes hard on the heels of the cancellation of round 6 of the Series, due to have taken place last weekend.
That means that the final Championship positions will be defined from the results of just five races this season, down from the nine races that would form a season in more normal times.
“We worked right up to the end to be able to hold our event with a hygiene concept adapted to the development of the pandemic,” says Christian Stephani, Managing Director of VLN VV GmbH & Co. KG. “The measures adopted by the federal government on Wednesday to contain the corona pandemic, after consultation with the responsible authorities, leave no scope to organize our races. Among other things, all contacts should be reduced to a minimum. We take this into account with the cancellation. Our season ended prematurely and we are now putting all our energy into planning for the 2021 season.”
With several European nations introducing significantly enhanced measure restricting travel there may well be more late season schedule changes in the coming days.
