Two More Guest Entries Revealed For Silverstone 500

0 7

2 Seas Motorsport will enter a third McLaren 720S GT3 in the Intelligent Money British GT Championship’s Silverstone 500 season finale on November 7/8.

Al Faisal al Zubair and Martin Kodric join fellow Silver Cup crews Angus Fender/Dean Macdonald and Jack Mitchell/Jordan Witt in the 2 Seas garage for British GT’s blue riband three-hour endurance race.

Al Zubair is a double Porsche GT3 Middle East champion but hasn’t contested a race since the Dubai 24 Hour at the start of 2020. Silverstone will mark his British GT debut but the Omani is no stranger to a paddock where he spent time during his BRDC British F3 and F4 campaigns in 2015/16.

“I am extremely excited to be back racing after such a long break, having not competed since the Dubai 24-hour race in January,” he said. “It will be a very different experience for me, racing in a new series with the McLaren which I have never raced before, but I am really excited to be back in a GT3 car, racing with 2 Seas Motorsport alongside Martin at the iconic Silverstone circuit.

“The British GT Championship is recognised globally as one of the strongest and most competitive domestic GT championships, and the racing so far this season and the grid size is testament to that. The 2 Seas Motorsport team has already shown themselves to be true contenders at each event in their debut season, and I am excited to be racing with Martin who is a proven race-winner at the wheel of the McLaren. It is going to be a fun weekend!”

Kodric, meanwhile, won the GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS title as a Lamborghini junior in 2018 before switching to McLaren. The Croatian also finished joint-second in this year’s GT Open standings aboard a 720S and raced the same model at the Bathurst 12 Hour in February.

The team’s co-owner, Isa Al-Khalifa, is looking forward to seeing a third 2 Seas McLaren on the grid just a year on from the team’s formation.

“I am really pleased to welcome Al Faisal to the team alongside Martin for the final event of the 2020 Intelligent Money British GT Championship season, and I am confident they will make for a really exciting pairing. The Silver Cup has provided some fantastic racing over the course of the season and adding a third GT3 car to our line-up is hugely exciting.

“It will be a steep learning curve for Al Faisal and Martin making their series’ debut at Silverstone, but both have achieved strong results at the highest level and the team is looking to end the season on a high and build on the overall race win from last time out at Snetterton.”

Team Parker Racing Add Porsche To GTC Class Entry

Team Parker Racing has added a GTC entry to its Intelligent Money British GT Championship line-up for the Silverstone 500 where Porsche Carrera Cup GB class champion Karl Leonard joins GT3 race winner Tim Bridgman.

The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is one of three GTC class contenders set for the three-hour season finale non November 7/8 after Scott Sport and Simon Green Motorsport confirmed one-off Ferrari 488 entries.

Leonard, who won the Carrera Cup GB Pro-Am championship with Team Parker last season, has raced 911s domestically and in Europe since 2008. However, Silverstone’s British GT season finale will be his first foray into multi-marque endurance racing.

“It will be great to be back with Team Parker Racing,” said Leonard, who has sat out the 2020 season up to now. “We had some brilliant times together, especially last year when we won the championship, so I can’t wait to get back out there with everyone and race with Tim for the first time. I’ve known him for a long time now and it seemed like a good opportunity to try this together.

“I’ve missed being out on track this year but once you get behind the wheel it all comes flooding back. It’ll be a different sort of challenge racing the Porsche in GTC, but we’ll get stuck in and enjoy the weekend.”

Bridgman, too, has spent most of his senior career racing 911s all over the world after winning domestic Formula Palmer Audi and Formula BMW single-seater titles. The Porsche Carrera Cup GB crown followed with Team Parker in 2009 before scoring a victory and two further podiums en route to seventh in British GT’s 2011 campaign with Trackspeed.

“I’ve been friends with Karl and his family since we crossed paths at Team Parker Racing in 2009 in the Carrera Cup,” he said. “He had a very successful 2019 and I have been badgering him to get into endurance racing for some time. I think the Silverstone 500 is the perfect event to get stuck into; it’s a nice long race and will give him a taste for endurance racing and the comparison from sprint events.

“There’s a lot of familiarity with Stuart and Team Parker Racing so it will be nice to be back with everyone for the first time since 2010 when we did the Porsche Supercup, so it’s been a while! I have fond memories of British GT from the 2011 season, also in a Porsche, so things have fallen into place quite well.”
