FIA Motorsport Games Set To Return In 2022

0 16

The FIA Motorsport Games are set to return in 2022 after being cancelled this year in the wake of the COVID-19 epidemic.

The event will be based around Marseille with track action set to take place at the Circuit Paul Ricard with the games set to welcome some 16-18 different sporting disciplines.

Amongst those still not finalised is an endurance racing element involving LMP3 cars/ teams, the concept still under discussion with the ACO (who own the rights to LMP3).

Already confirmed though are a pair of disciplines in GT racing, again set to involve nationally entered GT3 machinery with one car per nation.

The GT format seen at both the Nations Cup in Bahrain in 2018 and at the inaugural Motorsport Games at Vallelunga will return, the teams strictly Pro-AM with a maximum of a Bronze and Silver-ranked driver in the two driver crew.

That will be joined on the schedule for the final day of action by a new GT Sprint discipline – likely using the same cars and run a day after the GT contest it will see a 60 minute single driver race format with no driver categorisation restrictions, effectively a full Pro field.
