Notes On The 2020 Le Mans 24 Hours Entry

0 6

EuroInternational

EuroInternational, entered in 2020 with a Ligier LMP2 effort via the auto invitation that came courtesy of their 2019 ELMS LMP3 title claim the record of being the team win the entry returning to the 2020 Le Mans 24 Hours after the longest gap!

Their previous entry came in 1995 under the Euromotorsport moniker with a Ferrari 333SP for Jay Cochrane, Massimo Sigala and ex F1 man Rene Arnoux (pictured top).

Team Principal Antonio Ferrari will be hoping for a better run in 2020, the 1995 effort ended after just 7 laps, Sigala suffering a blown engine after a sparkling early run to the front of the field!

In an odd parallel, 1995 driver Arnoux’s 1983 F1 team-mate at Ferrari was Patrick Tambay whose son Adrian is the first named driver for the 2020 EuroInternational Le Mans effort!

Four x LMP2

The published 2020 entry list shows representatives of all four post 2017 LMP2 chassis for the first time since the first year of the Gibson-powered formula in 2017.

The Rick Ware Racing Effort is only the second appearance on a Le Mans entry list from an example of the Riley Multimatic Mk 30 after Ben Keating’s 2017 effort.

It’s the equal largest number of LMP2s on the entry since the new formula began too, the 25 cars (including the Garage 56 Oreca) matching the 2017 entry but with a dramatically different mix

The 2020 entry includes no fewer than 19 ORECA 07 chassis (including the Alpine and Aurus-homologated examples – beating the 2017 high water mark of 14 (there were 9 in 2018 and 12 in 2019)

By contract the Ligier JS P217 numbers are at an all-time low with three on the entry (contrasting with 7 in 2017, 8 in 2018 and 6 in 2019)

The Dallara P217 numbers 2 examples meanwhile, the same as last year, and one down on the trio that featured in both 2017 and 2018

LMP1 Numbers

LMP1 numbers meanwhile match the decades low point at 6 cars (with a further car on the reserve list).

The previous sextet came in 2017 with a trio of Toyotas, the final appearance of the Porsche 919 and a solo ByKolles forming the top class.
