President’s Report – Fall 2018
Herb Says… Another great race weekend at MSR-H with over 100 racers and 12 students. Thanks to Chief Instructor Berkeley Merrill for another successful school. The weather was perfect Friday with rain all day Saturday. Sunday was nice until the points races when the rain and lightning started. All groups got 10 minute points races except group 3 that was cancelled due to lightning in the area. There were a couple of accidents but fortunately no injuries. Race Chairman Bill Wolff, Elliott Barron and the Barron Racing Women’s Auxiliary came to the rescue by providing lunch for the corner workers on Saturday. The Saturday evening Beer and Brats Happy Hour was well attended with everyone walking away full and happy after hours of garage racing. Thanks to Erica Robau for organizing and coordinating the food trucks that were a big hit. Erica is dealing with a staph infection so please keep her in your positive thoughts and prayers. Jean Womble, The Queen of Swag, reported brisk sales all three days and what might be a record for Swag sales. A Special Thanks to our staff and corner workers for making sure everything ran smoothly and we had a successful race weekend. It was good seeing Merl back in the tower. Our own CVAR author Russ Rosenberg has written a Book titled “Racing Under the Illusion of Grandeur”. If you haven’t bought your copy yet be sure and contact Russ at vintageracer53@gmail.com Our next race is at COTA November 1 through 4 where we are Special Invited Guests of our friends from SVRA. This is the “Vintage National Championship” race so be sure and register ASAP. After the track is cold Saturday we are all invited to the annual Awards banquet. This promises to be another great race weekend at a world class track. The season ending points race is November 30 through December 2 at Texas Motor Speedway. This is not only the last race of the 2018 season it is also the fund raiser for the Race Against Kids Cancer, RAKC. We need a big turn out so please plan on attending this race. In addition to racing there will be a dinner, beer and wine, live and silent auction plus the Chris Watson Band. RV hook ups and garages are available for rent.
