In a crash you can be compressed, hard into the bottom of the seat.
A sudden stop like a frame bottom impact has such a short duration that the impact force is very, very high !!
When the seat stops instantly, the weight of your body, head and helmet crush you like a pile driver against the rigid bottom of the seat.
Your spine can only support so much force and beyond that the bones fracture or burst.
These spinal injuries are extremely painful and end your racing for the season and can put you out of work for several months to a year.
In some cases there is paralysis or other neurological problems.
We wanted to know what can we do to reduce the risk of this problem for our own racing.
