Game # 96, Athletics vs Blue Jays Game Thread
Can Severino turn things around at Home?
After taking the series last night in dramatic, walk-off fashion from the Atlanta Braves, the Athletics take on the Toronto Blue Jays in the first game of final series of the first half tonight at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento. The jays enter tonight’s matchup in first place in the American League East with a 54-39 record, while the A’s sit in fifth in the AL West with a 39-56 record.
Luis Severino gets his second consecutive start at home, where he’s struggled mightily, not that he’s been stellar on the road either. He’s yet to make it past the fifth inning since June 13. On the season he’s 2-10 with a 5.40 ERA over 19 starts. Max Scherzer will take the mound facing the A’s tonight. He made four starts in 2025 and has no record with a 4.76 ERA in 17 innings. He returned from the injured list on June 25 after starting the season with right thumb inflammation.
Scherzer will face this lineup for Mark Kotsay’s Athletics:
