Hoping to avoid a road sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels, the Athletics faced off in game three of the series at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. The A’s came into this game in the American League West cellar with a 26-43 record and face the third place Angels currently standing with a 32-34 record.

The A’s took an early lead in the top of the first after a Brent Rooker double and a Max Muncy single.

In the top of the third, Rook extended the lead to 2-0 with his fourteenth homer of the season. In the top of the fourth inning Max Schuemann drove in Luis Urías with a sacrifice fly.

The Angels exploded in the bottom of the sixth for six runs, running Sears and taking advantage of Grant Holman who never recorded an out.

In the top of the seventh, Brent Rooker put the A’s closer with his second homer of the day, a two-run shot driving in Max Schuemann, who had led off the inning with a walk. The A’s still trailed 6-5 heading to the bottom of the seventh.

JJ Bleday got his first hit of the day, a double to lead off the top of the eighth. But three consecutive pop outs stranded him at second.

Reid Detmers slammed the door in the ninth, finishing off the three-game sweep for the Angels.
