Game #16: Athletics vs. Mets Game Thread
Series finale on tap for your Sunday afternoon
The Athletics took the middle game of the series yesterday in a close 3-1 win over the Mets. They now have a chance to win the series if they can prevail over New York in the final game of the home stand. Let’s finish this off on a winning note!
Taking the ball for the Green & Gold today will be Luis Severino. The right-hander has a 4.74 ERA on the season, getting hit hard in two of his three outings so far. He’s not taking well to his new home park so far as he’s allowed 10 runs in 13 innings at home. He’ll be looking to turn things around and get his first win today against a Mets squad that has gotten off to a rough start offensively this season.

The starting nine looks fairly typical, though with one major exception. Center field will be manned by Seth Brown this afternoon as JJ Bleday gets the day off. Other than that we will see regulars Lawrence Butler and Gio Urshela return to the lineup after getting the day off yesterday while Shea Langeliers retakes his spot behind the plate after a half day off in yesterday’s win.
New York will send Japanese righty Kodai Senga to the hill to counter Severino. After missing almost all of last year Senga entered this season hoping to show his amazing 2023 was no fluke. He’s done just that so far as the 32-year old has a pristine 1.80 ERA over his first two starts so far. Let’s hope that number is significantly higher after today.

Let’s go A’s! Time to win the series and end the home stand on a high note.
