Athletics 2024 Season in Review: Gerardo Reyes
Just a short ‘cup of coffee’ for the righty reliever
Gerardo Reyes is an MLB relief pitcher, who has played portions of the last four major league seasons with three ballclubs. He attended Galveston College in Texas and was signed as a free agent by the Tampa Bay Rays in December of 2013. He bounced around the league for years within the Rays, Padres, and Angels organizations, finally landing with his most recent club, the Oakland Athletics.
How was he acquired?
On December 10, 2023, the A’s signed Gerardo Reyes to a free agent contract for the 2024 season. He was immediately assigned to the Las Vegas Aviators of the Pacific Coast League (PCL)
What were the expectations?
Reyes came to the A’s with only thirty-seven major league appearances despite being signed for more than ten years. Each of those games were in relief. His longest stint in the majors was in 2019 with the Padres where he pitched twenty-six innings and finished with a 4-0 record but a 7.62 ERA.
2024 Results
Gerardo Reyes was selected by the A’s from the PCL Aviators on July 30, 2024. He made three appearances for the A’s, pitching a total of four innings with no record and a 4.50 ERA. The A’s outrighted Reyes back to the Las Vegas Aviators on August 9th and he did not return to the major league club for the remainder of the season.
