Spence looks to tame hot Phillies bats

Fresh off a 6-2 victory yesterday in the “City of Brotherly Love” the Oakland Athletics hope to take game two from the Philadelphia Phillies today at Citizens Bank Park. As the two teams head into the All-Star break after Sunday’s game, the teams will experience the game differently. The Phillies have seven players headed to Arlington, Texas, the most in the majors, while the A’s are sending just one, Mason Miller, one of if not the most dynamic young closers in the game.

Today, A’s manager Mark Kotsay will send Mitch Spence to the mound for his last start of the first half. Spence is 5-5 with a 4.29 ERA in his 21appearances this year (ten starts). Spence will be facing 26-year-old rookie Tyler Phillips who will be making his first MLB career start for the Phillies. The young righty made just one relief appearance where he pitched four innings with seven strikeouts and gave up one earned run.
